The other nice folks already provided answers, but as a med school faculty member, I just wanted to say something else, please take this as constructive advice, I am really not trying to be a jerk.

Even open-book, take-home quizzes typically have some kind of honor code, which would preclude asking other people for help? Even if not, it defeats the point if you just ask for answers without any explanation. Sure you might get a higher score on *this* quiz, but what happens when you have to take a closed-book test later? The point of quizzes is to force you to learn the material, and even more importantly, how to find the answers on your own. If one day you’re a scientist or physician and have a more difficult problem to solve, Yahoo!Answers probably won’t be there for you.

    Cheers,
    Jolo

Human Anatomy & physiology: quiz — Help me?
Please help me with these few, you nice people.

    1. (10). Worn-out and damaged red blood cells are destroyed in the
    thymus gland
    tonsils
    spleen
    lymph nodes

    2. (12). Circulating red blood cells:
    contain a nucleus
    have biconcave disk shape
contain 30% of the body’s hemoglobin
clot the blood to prevent its loss

    3. (13). How is oxygen carried through the blood stream?
    dissolved in plasma
on receptors on the red blood cell membrane
    as an amino acid
on the iron portion of the hemoglobin molecule

    4. (16). Identify the cell related to the manufacture of antibodies:
    plasma cells
    suppressor cells
    lymphocytes
    thrombocytes

    5. (17): In order to form filtrate, blood flows from the glomeruli into:
    Bowman’s capsule
    the arcuate artery
    a proximal convoluted tubule
    the renal pyramids
The parentheses’ are only there to help me remember what questions I asked. :d just so you know.

  6. Careful Mouse

Everything looks good, but after looking it over a bit more thoroughly, you may want to double check your book for the answer to number 6…

I may be wrong, since it’s been a while since I’ve taken physiology, but I believe that “sodium” is released from the sarcolemma, not calcium. The sarcolemma is drenched with sodium that infuses the microfibrils via the triad (which in turn triggers the release of calcium from the terminal cisternae when needed).

So, if this were my quiz, I would change answer number 6 to b) sodium. Everything else looks spot on!
